Intel Battlemage "Xe2-HPG" GPU architecture on track for 2024 launch, new roadmap shows - VideoCardz.com

Intel lays its plans for 2024, Battlemage on track

The company will launch a new GPU architecture next year.

Intel has released a new client PC roadmap for Japanese media 4Gamer. This roadmap focuses on products introduced in 2023 such as 14th Gen Core series, Core Ultra 100, Xeon Sapphire Rapids for workstations and also discrete graphics such as Arc A580. For 2024, Intel is promising ‘upcoming products’, seemingly reaffirming its plans to Battlemage launch next year.

Intel has already confirmed that Battlemage will be part of the 2023-2024 client deployment, so any deviation from this plan would be considered a delay. The company has exercised caution by refraining from specifying particular quarters this time, a lesson learned from the unfortunate setback experienced with the Alchemist launch, which was extended by several months.

Intel has not provided any new information regarding Battlemage; however, the rumor mill is full of such details. First, the leaked slide said it will have a new type of memory, possibly GDDR6X. This architecture is also said to feature improved ray tracing and some microarchitecture improvements. It will also focus on Next-Gen AI rendering technologies and offer improved Deep Link support for discrete/integrated GPU workloads.

More importantly, Battlemage is officially targeting performance and enthusiast segments judging from the slides, indicating Intel has a plan to enter and hopefully capture some of the high-end market. Preliminary speculations have hinted at the BMG-G10 GPU, the flagship SKU currently in the development phase at Intel labs, being geared towards a power target of 225W, while the BMG-G21 is anticipated to be a 150W product.

If other rumors are correct, BMG-G10 will use a more advanced process node, allowing Intel to put more cores into the die. However, it was also said that gamers could expect at least 56 Xe-Cores, so almost twice as many cores as the ACM-G10, which offers 32 Xe-Cores.
