PlayStation's Project Q handheld runs Android, leaked images suggest | VGC - Video Games Chronicle

Several images of PlayStation‘s upcoming Project Q handheld have appeared online.

The images, which were initially posted to Imgur and then later circulated on social media, show the handheld as well as the internal components of the machine.

The images also appear to confirm that the machine will be Android-based. This could mean that Project Q could theoretically be modded to run other game streaming apps such as GeForce Now or Amazon Luna.

Announced during a PlayStation Showcase event earlier this year, Project Q is described as “a dedicated device that enables you to stream any game from your PS5 console using remote play over wi-fi”.

According to SIE, the device has an 8-inch 1080p HD screen and all the buttons and features of the DualSense wireless controller.

While Sony is yet to announce an official release date for Project Q, court filings from Microsoft during the recent Activision Blizzard case suggest that it’s expected to launch later this year.

This is Sony’s third attempt at a handheld device of this nature, following the hugely successful PSP and the cult-classic PS Vita.

However, unlike those two families of systems, Project Q will exclusively be a streaming machine and necessitates a PlayStation 5 to work at all.
