New Atomic Heart trailer highlights an old woman with a ladle - Polygon

This story is part of a group of stories called E3

E3 2021 takes place June 12-15 as a re-imagined, all-virtual online event. Nintendo, Xbox, Bethesda, Square Enix, Sega, Bandai Namco, Ubisoft, Capcom, and others will deliver new video game announcements, trailers, release dates, and more.

A new trailer for Atomic Heart, showing during Microsoft and Bethesda’s E3 2021 presentation doesn’t offer a lot of background information. We know it’s set in the Soviet Union, in the year 1955, and yet there’s clearly a lot here that’s not very well explained. For example, what’s with all these wacky robots? And why does that old woman have a ladle?

The developer, Mundfish, was previously working on a VR game called Soviet Lunapark VR, and the tone of that project seems to have transferred over to this new game, complete with wacky characters and an unwieldy story.

Previously updates on the game indicated that it’s an open-world shooter, placing you in the shoes of a KGB agent assigned to investigate a catastrophic event at a science facility. Perhaps the ladle has something to do with it?

While it still lacks a release date, Atomic Heart will come to Game Pass on Xbox, PC and the cloud on launch day.
